You Deserve

Specialized Treatment

Have you been struggling to lose weight and keep it off with diet and exercise alone? Obesity is a chronic disease, not a willpower problem, and it puts you at risk for serious conditions like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and sleep apnea.

Our board-certified bariatric team is here to help you take that next step. We offer a full range of weight loss solutions, including:

  • Surgical weight loss: gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and duodenal switch, performed using minimally invasive and da Vinci® robotic-assisted techniques for smaller incisions, less pain, and a faster recovery
  • Endoscopic options: including Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) and Transoral Outlet Reduction (TORe) for patients who prefer a non-surgical approach
  • Medical weight loss: physician-guided plans, including GLP-1 medications such as Wegovy®, Zepbound®, Ozempic®, and Mounjaro®
  • Comprehensive support: pre-operative education, nutritional guidance, and long-term follow-up so you stay successful well beyond surgery

Why Choose

Why Choose Dignity Health Medical Group?

Advanced Technology, Better Outcomes

Dignity Health Medical Group is proud to offer the da Vinci® Surgical System, one of the most advanced robotic-assisted platforms available today, featuring a 3D high-definition camera and tiny wristed instruments that move with greater range and precision than the human hand. For patients, that often means smaller incisions, less scarring, less pain and blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and a faster return to everyday life.

Qualified Surgeons - Experience You Can Trust

Our team of board-certified surgeons combines decades of surgical experience with the latest technology to deliver outstanding outcomes for patients across Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert, and the West Valley. It's a privilege to be entrusted with your health, and we take great pride in the relationships we build with every patient. From your first consultation through your recovery and beyond, you'll have a team committed to your success.

Where People Come First — Personalized, High-Quality Care

Our philosophy is simple: every patient's journey is different. By prioritizing open communication, emotional support, and individualized care plans, we make sure you feel informed, empowered, and supported every step of the way.

Service Highlight

Anti-Reflux & Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery

Bariatric care is only part of what we do. Our surgeons are also fellowship-trained in minimally invasive general surgery, treating conditions that disrupt daily life, from chronic heartburn to hernias and gallbladder disease.

  • Anti-reflux & hiatal hernia repair: long-term relief from chronic GERD when medications and lifestyle changes are no longer enough
  • Hernia repair: inguinal, umbilical, incisional, and ventral hernias repaired with laparoscopic and robotic precision
  • Gallbladder surgery: laparoscopic cholecystectomy that typically allows patients to return home the same day
  • Additional procedures: pancreatic disease, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, breast cancer surgery, and colon procedures

Whenever possible, we use minimally invasive and robotic techniques, meaning smaller scars, less downtime, and a quicker return to the things you love.

Meet the Team

Shawn Stevenson, DO

Dr. Stevenson is the Director of metabolic and weight loss surgery at Dignity Health Medical Group and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. His special procedures are bariatric, advanced laparoscopic, colorectal, and anti-reflux surgery. In addition, he is one of only two surgeons in Arizona trained and FDA-certified in endobariatrics, including incisionless Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) using the OverStitch Endoscopic Suturing System. This training includes clinical evidence, patient selection, prophylaxis techniques, follow-up care, and adverse event prevention, mitigation, and management.

Gregory Robertson, MD

Dr. Robertson received his medical training and degree from Harvard Medical School, then completed his surgical residency at the University of Arizona School of Medicine. He has been in practice in Tucson since 1990 and began seeing patients in Chandler in 2014 to continue working with Dr. Stevenson. He enjoys the practice of Surgery because it offers the pleasure of direct patient care, along with the enjoyment of the technical aspects of surgery. “I’ve always been fascinated by the anatomy and physiology of the human body, and surgery gives an unequaled access to this, but nothing compares to the satisfaction of helping someone when they need it most.”

Van Leavitt, DO

Dr. Leavitt is a native of Arizona. He is fluent in Spanish and has participated in several medical mission trips to Mexico, where he has treated underserved populations. Dr. Leavitt trained heavily in laparoscopic surgery, trauma surgery, colorectal surgery, hernia surgery, anti-reflux surgery, breast surgery, wound care, and endoscopy, including EGD and colonoscopy. He is certified to a wide range of medical conditions including disorders of the gallbladder, stomach, intestines, and colon.

Lauren Rabach, MD, FASMBS, DABOM

Dr. Rabach is a fellowship-trained bariatric and general surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive and robotic approaches to the surgical and medical treatment of obesity. She is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and holds affiliations with St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and St. Joseph's Westgate Medical Center. Dr. Rabach's philosophy is to take a holistic approach by providing long-term care for her patients' physical and emotional needs, offering support in whatever way each patient requires.

Kevin Potter, DO

Dr. Kevin Potter is a fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in the gastrointestinal system, with particular expertise in GERD, bariatrics, and weight loss surgery. He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the American Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and the American College of Surgeons, and is certified in the LINX procedure. Dr. Potter believes the best care decisions are made as a team. He listens to his patients, develops care plans tailored to their expectations, and educates them at every step so they feel informed and confident about their treatment.

Romelda Antonio, FNP-C

Romelda Antonio is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in bariatrics, medical weight loss, and consultative care for patients pursuing lasting lifestyle change. She is a Registered Nurse and Certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Romelda's philosophy is rooted in identifying "the why" behind her patients' behaviors, recognizing that just as countless small decisions lead patients to where they are today, it is a series of small, sustainable changes that will guide them toward the lifestyle transformation they're seeking.

At Dignity Health Medical Group, we hold ourselves to the highest standards — and our patients are the proof.

I love looking in the mirror and having that confidence again.

"I suffered from type two diabetes, high blood pressure, and my PTH hormone was out of whack. I was always tired. No matter how active I was, I couldn’t lose weight. I tried dieting, exercise, and weight loss shots. Nothing worked. My blood sugar levels were 400 to 700 daily; I knew it was time to make a change. I knew I needed help. I had a great experience, hands down, from my first consultation to my appointment with my surgeon. I got all the tools I needed to succeed. If I needed help or guidance, they were there every step of the way. I am working hard every day with good food choices. I work out six days a week, and I can finally run a mile on the treadmill without gasping for air. I love looking in the mirror and having that confidence again."

I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to help me out in achieving my weight loss goals!

"Before surgery, I had little to no energy to do anything, really. I was tired all the time, couldn’t play with my children, and didn’t want to even do yard work. I was also ashamed of the way I looked. I didn’t want to go out in public, fearing people would judge me for being so heavy. If I saw someone I knew (or used to know) at a store or restaurant, I would avoid them at all costs. I would not take pictures with my family because I didn’t like the way I looked. It was something that had been on my mind for a while, but I never had the nerve. Eventually, I decided that things (my weight) had gotten too out of hand. This journey has been wonderful! Everyone has been so nice and understanding… I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to help me out in achieving my weight loss goals! Exercise has become a lot easier: jogging a mile without any problems, having energy to do pretty much whatever I want, going to the gym on a regular basis – these are all things I wanted to do before, but now I can actually do them."

Lost 100 LBS!
After my consultation with Dr. Stevenson, it was a no-brainer. He made me feel safe and comfortable.

"I was very overweight, in fact at my heaviest I was 390 lbs. I had back problems, high blood pressure, and was pre-diabetic. My life was a walking time bomb. I was on all kinds of medication that I wanted to get off of. Since the procedure, I’m medication-free. I’ve lost 200 lbs and am active, doing things. After my consultation with Dr. Stevenson, it was a no-brainer. He made me feel safe and comfortable. Everything went absolutely perfect. I never doubted anything. I knew I was in great hands. I’ve since lost 200 lbs. I’m on no medication, not even an aspirin. I have amazing energy, and I’m so active. I have a new life. I’m doing things with my family and not making excuses because I’m not overweight. It’s a lifestyle change, not a diet – it’s much easier. It will give you your life back and even add years to it. I feel amazing. I would definitely recommend this facility to everyone. They will give you the opportunity to have a better life. Results will be incredible."
